Board of Directors monthly meeting

The Henry County Hospital Board of Directors held their monthly board meeting on Monday, March 1 in the Heller Community Room at Henry County Hospital. Present at the meeting were Dr. Joseph Krueger, Chairman of the Board; Kimberly Bordenkircher, Chief Executive Officer; Marv Barlow, Vice Chairman; John Wilhelm, Secretary; Dr. Laura Elliott, Chief of Staff; Anne Goon, Health Commissioner; Rick Roell, Rick Fruth, Dr. Robert Limbird and Tom Mack. Also present were: Officer, Mary Clapp, Controller, Brad Shaw, Blue and Company and Karen Sunseri, Executive Assistant.

The Board of Directors Annual Meeting of the Membership began at 4:30 p.m.

Kimberly Bordenkircher, Chief Executive Officer presented the hospital monthly report to the Board of Directors:

    •The 7th Annual Foundation Fund Drive is underway. The funds raised in this year’s annual campaign will be use to ensure that persons walking to Emergency Care Services are protected from elements like rain and snow. The project will cost approximately $35,000 and will be built on the Northwest side of the hospital.
    •Congressman Latta visited Henry County Hospital on February 17, 20010. Dr. Joseph Krueger and members of the Administrative Team participated in the tour and discussed healthcare reform as it relates to Rural Hospitals with Congressman Latta.
    •On February 1, 2010 the Safety Culture Survey was sent to all hospital staff. The purpose of the survey was to identify areas where we do well, and areas where improvement is needed in regards to providing safe care, a safe environment for patients, family, visitors, and staff.
    •Patients in Emergency Care Services are now being asked to pay a co-pay after treatment has been rendered. A person who doesn’t have insurance, are asked to pay a $25 deposit. If a patient cannot make the deposit, then the patient will be referred to Sue Barnes, Financial Counselor; or they can apply for assistance of various types. There are two assistance programs, the Hospital Care Assurance Program from the state and the Henry County Hospital financial plan.

Mary Clapp, Controller, presented the financial statements for January 2010. There were 57 admissions and 13 births thru January. Days in accounts receivable remained at 50 days. The Board of Directors approved the purchase of humidification equipment for a total of $6,650.32 plus labor from Fitzenrider, Inc.

The Board of Directors approved to write-off $184,266.02 for bad debt. Bad debt is accounts receivable that will likely remain uncollectible.

The next Board Meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 12, 2010 in the Heller Community Room.
