On Monday, April 1, 2010 Henry County Commissioners signed a proclamation declaring April 2010 Child Abuse Prevention Month and encourage all citizens to become aware of child maltreatment prevention and become involved in promoting strong families and healthy communities.
Child abuse prevention is about enhancing the ability of parents and communities to care for their children’s health and well being. Family members, educators, public officials, and faith based and community organizations all play roles in healthy child development and helping to ensure that children are safe and can grow surrounded by love and stability.
As a community, there is a shared responsibility of protecting children, and during Child Abuse Prevention month, it’s a time to renew Henry County’s commitment to prevent child abuse and neglect so that our children can grow to realize their full potential.
On the Henry County Courthouse lawn you will find 175 blue and silver pinwheels spinning in the breeze. These Pinwheels represent the adults who provided a voice and advocacy to the children who were victims of child abuse in Henry County in 2009. Tomorrow, these pinwheels will represent these children growing up in safe, loving families.
