Cardiac Rehab

Cardiac Rehab at Henry County Hospital

Cardiac rehabilitation (rehab) is a must for patients who cope with heart disease or after a major cardiac event such as a heart attack or other catastrophic heart-related incident. The purpose of cardiac rehab is to help patients strengthen their hearts, restore their energy, and kick off a new start to healthier living. Our highly trained staff at Henry County Hospital educates patients, answers questions, monitors exercise, and provides a safe environment for activity.

Benefits of Cardiac Rehabilitation

Patients who undergo Cardiac Rehab can expect many benefits, from improved cardiac health to reduced risk factors associated with heart disease. They can increase their strength and endurance while decreasing symptoms such as fatigue and shortness of breath as they improve their knowledge of heart-healthy behaviors, such as learning better nutrition.

  • Cardiac rehab is sectioned into three phases:
  • Phase 1: Acute, In Hospital Patient Period
  • Phase 2: Subacute Outpatient Care (Post-discharge, Pre-Exercise Period)
  • Phase 3: Maintenance

We provide education on a variety of heart-related topics, including risk factor identification, medication education, and diet and nutrition counseling provided by our registered licensed dietitians. Insurance coverage is dependent on your healthcare plan.

Phase 3: Maintenance Program

This program is supervised by registered nurses. It is appropriate for patients who have completed the Phase 2 Program. Exercise is self-monitored to promote patient independence. Staff will continue to monitor cardiovascular status and provide education and support related to disease management, blood pressure, heart rate, and medication regimen.
