Yoga Poses for Balance and Strength

Yoga Poses for Balance and Strength

Stretches for Better Balance

While many people focus on weight loss on their health and wellness journeys, balance and strength training also play important roles in your overall fitness.

Chair Pose

The chair pose is an excellent pose to help tone muscles throughout your body.

Follow these steps to reap this pose’s strengthening and stabilizing benefits:

  • Stand with your feet slightly wider than hip-width apart with your arms at your side.
  • Lift your hand above your head with your arms parallel and your hands facing forward.
  • Bend your knees, keeping your legs parallel to one another. Lean forward with your torso, lengthening your neck and spine, making a right angle with your torso and thighs.
  • Hold this position for 1 minute.

Tree Pose

Also known as Vrksasana, the tree pose helps to promote relaxation while improving your balance.

Follow these steps to perform the tree pose:

  • Start in a standing position with your arms by your side and your feet together.
  • Shift your weight to your right leg as you bring your left foot up to the side of your thigh. Your pelvis should remain level, facing forward.
  • Press your hands together in front of your chest.
  • Keeping your palms pressed together, left your arms above your head, forming a v-shape.
  • Hold this pose for 1 minute.

Downward-Facing Dog

Downward-facing dog is an excellent pose for strengthening your arms, legs, and the muscles in your back. This pose also helps to lengthen and stretch your hamstrings.

Follow these steps to practice downward-facing dog:

  • Start off on all fours with your hands shoulder-width apart only on your mat.
  • Pressing your hand into the mat, tuck your toes under and lift your knees odd the floor.
  • Straighten your knees as much as you can comfortably.
  • Hold this pose for 1 minute.
